I spent the weekend reading and playing with VAGSuite and created a tune for a 2003 TDI Jetta 1.9L with engine code ALH. I would love if a TDI tuning expert would take a look and provide some feed back. My car is stock. I used Midas's ECU15 guide to walk through most of it lowering the value to be more inline with the 90HP ALH engine.
Having your car rolling road tuned (or even generic map) is definitely the best option for most power v money. Or Go 2 sizes bigger on the injectors, with no re-map. Or The simplest but dirtiest mod, a tuning box.
The PD 1.9 comes in 100, 115, 130, 150 power units. There is even talk of a 175!! Same displacement I think, all turbo size and electronics. Matt
. There is also a 90 Hp - version of the 1.9 TDI PD. They put it in the VW Sharan, Ford Galaxy, Seat Alhambra. It has 90 Hp and 240 Nm with 6-speed tranny.
A car that is in excellent mechanical condition is all that is required, really. Getting a tune and not changing your driving habits for fuel economy will more than likely result in the use of more fuel. Most people want to use the new found power the tune produces and miss out on the economy part of it altogether.

With just the tune, Malone states it should be around 305 ft/lbs of torque and 176 hp. After the mods I should have a very quick and strong Audi. 😁. Keep your expectations realistic and you’ll be happy with the results. If your end goal is to get a TDI to drive like a GTI, you’ll only ever be disappointed.
I have a stage 2 Malone Tune and I love it. If you like hard long driving get the stage 1 to save the turbo, but if you like to get into it a little every day it's been working great for me. I do have creep once the RPM's get to 4000+ and some smoke. Sent me your email and I'll send you a video of the dyno run.

The 1,6td unit has a turbine housing of a 0,36 ratio. This will make your 1,9 liter engine perform really well from approxiamately 1000rpm to about 3000rpm. Might be great for heavily congested city traffic tho'. The 0,36 unit is too small even in a 1,6liter engine if you wish to push the engine performance anywhere beyond light tuning.
My last tdi had no cat and no egr, wouldn't go past 80kmh with all the codes. Currently getting bad fuel mileage with the clogged emission stuff and I want to get rid of it. Not looking for more power, not looking to roll coal, just want to recycle my spare parts and get better mpgs in the process.
